My girlfriend got a Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 at work from tradescanners. She loved it, and it gave me a way to evaluate it and the bundled software. I run a paperless office in my small business, so I went ahead and got regular S1500, even though I use Macintosh computers. The drivers work fine. And as the Mac OS has pdf-processing built in, there is no need to even touch the bundled Acrobat. For retrospective OCR of pdfs, I also use OCRKit (GBP35). So, Mac users don't need the S1500M, unless they really want the different styling.
The scanner itself is absolute gold! The way it folds up is a design masterpiece, it opens up easily for cleaning, and dealing with jams and mis-feeds is a doddle and well thought-out. It's a game-changer, compared to using flat-beds or even portable sheet-feeders. The time saved on filing and archiving is huge, provided you figure out a tight and descriptive file-naming system right from the start. My girlfriend's office have bought a couple more already, and they're running flat out all day.
The only two little niggles I can think of are the software, which works well, but has a slightly clunky, non-Mac-like interface, and the fact that the unit isn't Wifi-capable. But the concept is so good otherwise, it still deserves 5 stars.

we bought a fujitsu scanner about 18m month ago due to a recommendation from a friend, since the day it came it has been used every single day (7 days a week) scanning approx 90 sheets a day, we had once slight problem with it and it was swapped 2 days later without question. when out fitting a new office we purchased a second scanner the scan snap s1500 (the later version to our previous scan snap) again this has been used everyday since it came, We thought that the first scanner was unbeatable until the new one came with updated software able to scan direct to word, excel, email etc. Without doubght I would recommend one to anybody who wants to file and store documents quick and easy! Perfect little piece of kit! also stylish and sits neatly on the desk too.

Everything is going very well with the Fujitsu ScanSnap s1500 scanner and ,with 20,000 scans down, I haven't had any problems with it. In fact it is everything I had hoped and more. I heartily recommend it.
To give you an idea, I have cleared approx 12 crates full of lever arch files and papers of various ages into nice and clear pdfs - this is saving about 50 square foot of space (a bedroom,van or office full), all done in 2-3 weeks. It is SO quick - genuinely 20 duplex copies/minute, the thing that slows the process is my being ready with the next file. The scanner is perfectly reliable and works fine so long as I remember to remove all the staples - in fact it is more reliable than me! It ALWAYS tells you if pages have gone through together, usually due to folded paper put in (ie my fault), and if the paper is well organised I can almost leave it to it. It can take paper from scraps to A3 (using the carrier sheet).
File size is about 5Gb so far, so not too heavy on the disk space.
As a bonus with this scanner, you get adobe pdf read/write software as well, this lets you adjust your documents after the event, which I have needed to do to with some of my handwritten notes/diagrams, to make sure that they are the correct way up.
I would recommend this scanner to anyone who needs/wants to save documents but cannot justify the physical space. It would have taken me years to get this done with a flatbed. I will be able to travel very light in the future.
I would also say that the service from tradescanners was excellent, with good pre and post sales support and very prompt delivery. I ordered in the afternoon and received it the following morning.

I have bought over a dozen of these Fujitsu ScanSnap over the years for my expanding business and seen several model changes, the latest being the S1500. They all have features in common; they are easy to use, reliable and produce excellent results. For the money, there is nothing comparable. Unfortunately, another feature they have in common is that the software is difficult to load and is not intuitive. I imagine their helpline is very busy with ScanSnap customers trying to use their new machine for the first time! However, once you are pass this hurdle (and I am an expert at it now!!!), you will find yourself with a brilliant machine and will never regret the purchase

The Snapscanner is the best thing since sliced bread. I have moved from a world of paper overload to organised folders with all my documents stored in PDF documents.
The ability to scan in 40 pages at a time mean everything from deeds of the house to my phone bills are all stored electronically !
It looks a tad expensive compared with other products but its well worth the extra cost, its very well constructed and should last a long time,highly recommended - it does require atleast 1gb of memory on your pc/laptop to work correctly.

I am extremely impressed by both the ease of deployment and the ease of use of the ScanSnap 1500. The software is solid and very intuitive, and it works just as perfectly in multi-user network (hotdesk) environments as it would stand-alone.
The scanner itself is fast and easy to use, and the mechanics of the paper feed are flawless. Not only does closing the covers put the unit in stand-by, but it greatly reduces the desktop footprint, it is very neat and compact. When the covers are opened there is virtually no waiting time which has been a problem with previous scanners, the whole thing is initialised in a couple of seconds. Users with no previous experience using the scanner will get perfect (and unscewed) results the very first time with little or no training.
I have purchased many other scanners in the past for both stand alone and multi-user office environments. Previous purchases have always proved troublesome in locked-down and or multi user environments, mainly due to poor bundled software, resulting in me having to do lots of modifications to the software just to get it to work, not to mention exhaustive user training. This is not the case with the ScanSnap 1500, just install and forget it!
Overall I just cannot fault it, I give this product 5 stars. I have 3 of these now and they have proven themselves far beyond my expectations. Also worth a mention is the great price and service from tradescanners.com.

The scanner is very good and exactly what I expected, and works very well, although I already had experience of it as my son has a slightly older version.
It's fast and always seems to give me the results no matter what stock I feed in or in what orientation. I use it mainly for scanning to pdf files. I have tried a scan to MS-Word and this seems to work well also. I have yet to try the other options.

I recently purchased an S1500. I have the smaller S300 that I have been using for the past two years and needed something that would cope with the quantity of Aircraft Records that I now deal with.
The S1500 has lived up to expectations and has been processing paperwork at an incredible rate. The one touch button facility makes it easy to use too.
The Software that comes with the Scanner is flexible, I normally scan and then have it auto OCR so that I can find what I need easily at a later date. It can scan and convert to Excel, Word and other formats although I have not needed this function yet.
I would thoroughly recommend the S1500 to anyone looking for a portable scanner, or one to leave on the desk.

Recently bought a Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 from Trade Scanners. Price was good and their service was great, no hitches and quick delivery. The machine is a whizz! It gobbles up documents at a great rate and I have been able to dump several sackfuls of old documents after scanning them on to an external hard drive. The machine doesn't really like that old flimsy thermal fax paper but otherwise is trouble free and easy to both set up and use. I'd recommend it to anyone with a light to medium workload.

I bought this scanner for home use. I had a number of physical files that had been hanging around for years, some decades. I wanted to keep the information but did not want the physical paper. So far I have scanned 14 lever arch files and 30 ring binders.
The scanner is small and fits neatly in the corner of my desk. The image quality is very good. The document feed has in general been very reliable. The scanner has fed every sheet that I could reasonably expect it to feed with just the occasional undetected multi-sheet pickup.
The software installed easily and has run reliably with no crashes or conflicts. The inclusion of Adobe Acrobat with software package has been of great benefit.
The scanner/software is that it could do with TWAIN and ISIS drivers. The lack of TWAIN drivers has stopped me working the scanner from within other software applications which would have been useful at times. Work arounds have been easily found which have not been too inconvenient.

For the last ten years we've been scanning all paper mail that comes through the door and shredding that which was not vital to keep. Over the years, we've gone through about 3 flatbed scanners and all have the same issue - each scan takes about 30 seconds to complete and by the time it has completed you're bored of waiting and have moved away. To sit and scan 30 documents (a typical weekly amount) you have to sit patiently for 15 to 30 minutes to complete the job.
I've always known that a sheetfed scanner was the solution, but they'd always looked too pricey, and the modern convergence device (scanner, printer, fax) was just too large. We're happy with our printer and decided to get something to go with it, purpose built for the job. Enter the ScanSnap S1500.
I ordered the Windows version of the product even though I intended to hook this up to a Mac. The Mac version comes with additional Adobe software that I didn't want to pay for and I'd read enough reviews to know that Fujitsu had release Mac drivers for the Windows version (and Windows driver for the Mac version). My usage style was to scan each item, then once all scanning was done, to save those items into various folders. Essentially I just wanted to ease the chore of scanning.
The ScanSnap was a breeze to get up and running; just remove all the packaging (carefully), hook up the USB cable, plug in the power cable, and install the driver on the Mac by inserting the CD. Within minutes of first connection I began testing the software on the Mac and quickly created the 2 profiles that have since served me. One to scan individual sheets straight to JPG, and another to scan multiple files to PDF (for expense claims).
Scanning the typical 30 weekly documents now takes about 1 minute instead of 15 to 30. If that stacks up to two weeks, a whole 2 minutes.
Scanning in receipts is great and, in general, the way it intelligently scans the input, taking into account the differences between a sheet of A4 and a reciept, and then automatically sizing the output image based on the input, is really just a fantastic display of technology done right.
I'm absolutely delighted with my purchase and wouldn't hesitate to recommend the device to anyone. TradeScanners did a marvelous job of delivering it the day after I ordered it, so I was very happy with their service too.

The scanner is a great bit of kit and one we couldn't work effectively without. It has saved us a fortune in print costs because most of what we do is scanned and emailed. It was worth every penny and already paid for itself in less than 2 months.

This is not the first Fujitsu scanner we have bought and we have been very happy with this model's predecessors and with other Fujitsu scanners. We bought this scanner as a one-for-one replacement for a ScanSnap FI 4110 EOX2 purchased a few years earlier.
Clearly, it is the software possibly more than the hardware which makes a good scanner. The ScanSnap S1500 is an excellent model which is much better at scanning colour and (especially) greyscale documents.
The automatic colour recognition (colour/ greyscale/ black and white with adjustable darkness) works very well, the resulting image quality is good and the file sizes are agreeably small. In our opinion this is the biggest single improvement and the scanner is thus very good at scanning a wide variety of A4 and smaller documents in one quick go. There are also other improvements (text embedding, character recognition) which we use less extensively.
Like its predecessor, this scanner takes up little space. It is a little faster than its predecessor and, while it is also more expensive than the previous model was, it has been well worth the additional outlay.

I had a massive filing cabinet with 10 years worth of paperwork in it and it was full. I was going to sort through it and get rid of the old stuff when i thought hey why not just ditch the lot! Importantly I wanted to keep all my records, so i had to find a quick and easy way to digitalise my life. That's where the ScanSnap came in! I was looking for a autofeed duplex scanner and was horrified at some of the prices that i came accross. The scansnap was very reasonable for it's functionality and I was impressed with the speed. Compared to my old scanner this machine is amazing as it is doing double sided scans so quickly, this is resulting in a substantial time saving. I simply ran the CD then attached the scanner to the PC and started to scan.
Its very easy to change scan settings and to save directly to folders on your computer.

As previous reviewers have said it's very easy to setup. Great having Adobe Acrobat to be able to do clever things with pdfs too.
My wife and I are whizzy round the house feeding it with paper, newspaper cuttings, mail, kids artwork etc. Give us a few weeks and I hope to have got around to scanning the whole filing cabinet and then get rid of it. Our plan is to scan stuff in and then let our remote virtual assistance do the digital filing for us and extract any relevant information and enter into our tax return / remind us what needs actioning etc.
Here's a few tips for speedy and efficient scanning with this beauty (might save you an hour or 2 playing around):
1. DON'T use the OCR function when you scan. Just create PDF files for now - greatly speeds things up.
2. Setup a 'Dropbox' account, and create an 'Inbox' folder in it, which you set to be the default scan location.
3. Setup the scanning software to 'scan to file' rather than any of the software (e.g. scan to folder) that comes with the scanner. Otherwise, every document you scan, a window will pop up which you have to click OK in at least twice, which will slow things up. You just want to scan a document in and then sort it out later on. It WILL alert you if you've got a problem (e.g. pages stuck together) if you have set it to use the ultrasound sensor.
4. Do OCR batchwise later on using the ScanScap Organizer software that comes with it to OCR entire folders (and subfolders). The process runs in the background if you want, so it doesn't slow down your computer. Or run it overnight. The trick is to create a shortcut in the software to your inbox folder so that you don't have to create duplicates of everything in the scansnap folder.
5. So, now you should have a whole bunch of files with automatic names based on time, date etc. Then you can rename them, or better, get someone else to rename them and file them in sensible folders. You could use the software that comes with the scanner for this, but I don't usually like being tied into a particular piece of software for this sort of thing as it's not very future proof. To help your assistant you could quickly write on the paper itself stuff like: Business - Reports - 2011 Q4 to help them file it correctly.
Of course, even better would be to get your office junior to scan everything in, saving you even more time. I am training my 5 year old! :) However, I would advise playing around with it for 30mins to 1 hour first and making sure that you / they understand how to use it best. For now, I'm quite enjoying doing the scanning myself - very satisfying! Even better when you shred it it afterwards (I went and bought a good shredder too!).
The tips I've outlined above should save you some time. If you are not using a remote assistant, obviously you don't need the dropbox option. Do make sure you back up the files somewhere though.
